- Visit beautiful Nidaros Cathedral, Norway’s national shrine
- Explore Ringve Museum and learn more about Norwegian music history
- Admire the botanical gardens surrounding the museum
Trondheim is an ancient city, founded by Viking king Olav Tryggvason in 997. Today we explore two of Trondheim’s main attractions. An enthusiastic tour guide brings Norway´s musical history to life. The museum is in an elegant old manor house that was the childhood home of 18th century Norwegian naval hero Petter Wessel Tordenskiold. Adjacent the museum is Ringve Botanical Garden, designed and built in the geometric Renaissance style, with medicinal plants, herbs, and array of traditional perennials. The museum and gardens are at an idyllic spot providing beautiful views of both the city and the fjord.
We then visit Nidaros Cathedral, Norway’s national shrine, for a guided tour. The cathedral is built over the grave of Norway’s patron saint, St. Olav. Construction of this magnificent building started in 1035 and ended around 1300. Take time to admire the intricate architectural details and exquisite works of art, including statues, ornaments and stained-glass windows.

Trondheim is a large city by Norwegian standards, but has managed to preserve much of the intimacy and charm of a small town. It is also a city full of contrasts, with its medieval cathedral, colourful wharves and beautiful red-painted wooden bridge dating back to 1861 on one hand, and its modern sports facilities, world-renowned education and research community, and lively nightlife on the other. A local guide tells you all about Trondheim´s highlights on a coach tour through its streets and boroughs, including a short stop at Utsikten (the View) to admire the city from above.
Our adventure continues to the impressive Nidaros Cathedral, built over the burial site of St. Olav (Tryggvason), the patron saint of Norway. Construction of this enormous Gothic structure with its countless details and adornments began as early as 1070. You quickly see why many describe Nidaros as the most beautiful religious building in Norway. At the end of the tour, you receive a complimentary book about Nidarosdomen to take home as a memory.

Our guided stroll through Trondheim starts at the harbour, largely built and developed during the second half of the 19th century.
