11A Trondheim With Nidaros Cathedral
Join us for a coach tour of this medieval city that has become a major modern academic and technological research centre.
Highlights of the excursion
- See and learn more about the city of Trondheim
- Visit beautiful Nidaros Cathedral, Norway’s national shrine and a Gothic masterpiece
- Enjoy a guided tour of the cathedral and receive a complimentary book
- Admire Trondheim and its surroundings from Utsikten viewpoint
Trondheim is a large city by Norwegian standards but has managed to preserve much of the intimacy and charm of a small town. It is also a city full of contrasts, with its medieval cathedral, colourful wharves and beautiful red-painted wooden bridge dating back to 1861 on one hand, and its modern sports facilities, world-renowned education and research community, and lively nightlife on the other. On this coach tour, a local guide tells you all about Trondheim´s highlights as we pass through its streets and boroughs, including a short stop at Utsikten (the View) to admire the city from above.
Our adventure continues to the impressive Nidaros Cathedral, built over the burial site of St. Olav (Haraldsson), the patron saint of Norway. Construction of this enormous Gothic structure with its countless details and adornments began as early as 1070. You quickly see why many describe Nidaros as the most beautiful religious building in Norway. At the end of the tour, you receive a complimentary book about Nidarosdomen to take home as a memory.

11C The Atlantic Road
Ride along on what The Guardian ranked as the world´s best road trip and was awarded the “Engineering Feat of the Century” prize in 2005.
Highlights of the excursion
- Join a guided bus tour from Kristiansund to Molde.
- Drive along the famous Atlantic Road, crossing eight bridges in a stunning coastal landscape.
- Visit the Kvernes Stave Church.
- Enjoy a `bacalao´ meal at a local tavern along the way.
The Atlantic Road zigzags and leaps across several small islands on eight low bridges that are built directly above and along the edge of the North Atlantic Ocean. The 8.2 kilometre journey passes through stunning coastal landscape and has not surprisingly become one of Norway’s most visited tourist destinations. We start our trip with a short sightseeing tour of the small city Kristiansund before continuing to the island of Averøy.
Here, we visit Kvernes Stave Church, believed built in the first part of the 13th century. Afterwards, we visit a local tavern where we tuck into the specialty of the house, “bacalao”, made from the region´s famous `klippfisk´ (dried cod) and other local ingredients. We then proceed along the Atlantic Road to Norway´s `City of Roses´, Molde, famous for its annual international jazz festival in July. We conclude our excursion with a short sightseeing tour of Molde before re-boarding Hurtigruten.
