What to look forward to

During the high summer, Svalbard offers up daylight around the clock. During this period, experiencing the midnight sun is one of the highlights. The long days also give you ample opportunity to do a lot of activities such as hiking and dog sledding. There is great activity among the animals, especially among the bird species where you can experience the little auk and the northern fulmar. In July the conditions to go on sailing trips are excellent, and they can bring you very close to the larger animals such as seals, polar bears and whales.

During this trip you'll stay at the Funken Lodge hotel. This historic hotel is located on Haugen and has a panoramic view of Longyearbyen. The Funktionærmessen Restaurant, which belongs to the hotel, offers up unique culinary experiences.

During the day you have the chance to explore Longyearbyen. You can, for example, visit the Svalbard Museum and learn more about Svalbard's geology, flora and everyday life in the archipelago, or visit Svalbard Church where it is impossible to be buried.

Day 1. Departure day

You fly out of Copenhagen in the afternoon, and after a stopover in Oslo you arrive in Longyearbyen in Svalbard. After arriving you will be picked up at the airport and driven to your hotel, the Funken Lodge.

You finish the day with a 3-course dinner incl. coffee at Funktionærmessen Restaurant.

Day 2. Arctic Wilderness Evening incl. dinner at Camp Barentz

With the day at leisure, you have the chance to explore Longyearbyen before you depart for the Arctic Wilderness Evening incl. dinner at Camp Barentz, in the evening.

Camp Barentz is located approx. 10 km east of Longyearbyen, at the foot of the Gruve 7 mountain. The camp's great location gives you the opportunity to experience the magnificent nature, and the Svalbard reindeer is a common sight in this area. The house was built as a replica of the cabin on Novaya Zemlya where Willem Barentsz and his crew were forced to spend the winter during their expedition in the years 1596-1597, during which time they accidentally discovered Bjørnøya and Spitsbergen. The bus stops slightly outside the camp, and you are welcomed by our hosts who lead you the rest of the way. The hosts will be armed with rifles to protect you against polar bears. Inside in the warmth, you are welcomed with a lit fireplace, and hot food is served while the hosts offer lectures and pictures. The lectures will be about the polar bear, the world's largest land predator.

The Arctic Wilderness Evening lasts approx. 3 hours.

Day 3. Possibility of a boat trip to the Nordenskiöld Glacier and Pyramiden (not included)

You have the day at leisure, and we recommend you go on the exciting boat trip to the Nordenskiöld Glacier and the mining town of Pyramiden. On this excursion, the course is set north towards Billefjorden. A hot lunch is served before going ashore to visit the Russian town, Pyramiden. Here you'll enjoy a guided walk through the former mining town, which was closed in 1998. The boat trip also passes by the Nordenskiöld Glacier, Brucebyen, Skansbukta, the Swedish House at Kapp Thordsen and the Birdcliff Diabas. It is recommended that participants wear warm and windproof clothing. The price includes transport from and to the harbour, a hot lunch on board, a guided tour with English-speaking guide in the town of Pyramiden and a guide aboard the boat.
The boat trip to the Nordenskiöld Glacier and Pyramiden lasts from approx. 08:30-18:30h.

If you do not want to go on the boat trip, you can spend the day exploring Longyearbyen at your leisure.
You finish the day with a 3-course dinner incl. coffee at Restaurant Nansen.

Day 4. Dog-sledding on wheels in Adventdalen

On today's excursion you have the chance to drive a dog sled, even though it's not winter. At full speed towards the old Northern Lights Station, you can enjoy the view of the landscape, and the chances to experience the wildlife along the way are very good. We follow the trail at the end of Endalen and past a magnificent sight at the Vinkelstasjon and the mountain behind it. On the excursion you get close to both nature and the happy polar dogs. Afterwards, there is time to greet the husky puppies and get something hot to drink.

You finish the day with a 3-course dinner at Coal Miners' Bar & Grill.

Day 5. Returning home

Your Arctic adventure is drawing to a close, and you are driven from your hotel to the airport. After a stopover in Oslo you arrive in Copenhagen in the evening.
